All day it was non-stop meetings and non-stop people just popping in and I know I didn't do any work between the pop-ins, the meetings, the phone calls, the e-mails, the tweets and the instant messages and you know what I think I will just go to the break room and grab another cup of coffee even though its already 4:30 and in hindsight it was a mistake because between the normal inconsistencies of metro and now all the tourists and the humidity which apparently makes metro weak at the knees more than snow does I have been on this metro train for what seems like two hours but its really been closer to one hour judging by the smart phone I pulled out to play angry birds after I just wanted to check the time and considering the hour I will just drop by Summers to use the toilet and oh my god the last thing I want to think about is drinking more but I am also a cheap bastard so it is a pity that the first mention that I saw of cheap beer was all the way back here in the bathroom.

Summers Marketing 102

Hell Hath No Fury Like Mike Green Scorned
I know. I've seen My Name is Earl and I get the whole concept of karma. I also heard all about John Lennon in December and I know that instant karma is going to get me. All that being said, I didn't know that my anti-disestablismentmikegreenism was going to come back and bite me in the ass like it did.
Everyone who has ever read this blog (thanks mom! i totes heart you!) knows I have a deep-seeded hatred for Mike Green and the way he plays hockey. Turnabout is fair play, and all the chickens who cant play defense came back to roost today.
Anyway, today was the last time Ottawa would play hockey in Washington during the regular season and I had my ticket ready and waiting by the front door.
Before I left I decided to have a few pops though. It was weird because the game was at 3 and I don't like drinking during the winter when the sun is up, but it is hockey, and I started drinking at 11 AM, I mean who doesn't love a Bloody Mary for brunch (hi mom! i had celery for breakfast!)? Well, one Bloody Mary led to four more and I was drinking up until 2 when I suddenly realized it was time to go.
I jumped on the metro.
And got as far as Rosslyn.
When I remembered that metro wasn't running between Rosslyn and Foggy Bottom. Well, not so much remembered as they told me to get off the train because it wasn't going to DC. Fucking Ted Leonsis and his attempts to keep all Caps haters out of the city.
Well, I showed him by not even going to the game and not giving him any of my money.
Only to realize that when I got home I had already paid for the tickets.
Damn you Ted Leonsis, Mike Green, and damn you too metro!

These Are Not the Droids You're Looking For
And Summers is not the worst run local business ever.
As much as I like to disparage Joe's inability to think outside the box and his inability to hire more than two competent staff people at a time and his inability to communicate with his customers or even god forbid anticipate customer needs, I will say that Summers is by no means the worst run local area business.
That dubious distinction belongs to Metro.
I'm not even sure where to start. Metro's service the last three days has been so piss-poor I'm tempted to buy a car and add to the area's traffic woes.
Metro has the worst business model ever because they keep raising prices while customer service goes down the toilet, the delays grow longer and more trains & escaltors go the way of my 3G phone.
I understand that Metro is beholden to a faceless controlling board and that there are too many cooks in the kitchen, but as with any business you need to learn how to grow a pair and take leadership on the issue. Lead by example.
And speaking of service, Metro has worse service than the Red Room. The PA announcements about there's a delay due to a train problem tells your customers absolutely nothing. There are always delays and you're never on time so tell me something new. And not to point fingers, but you're helping to keep fear alive.
Every time you tell us there's a train malfunction and we read about someone dying or a train catching on fire and blowing up only leads us to believe that is what is happening every time. The less information you share, the more you scare everybody.
And it shouldn't take an NASA rocket scientist to figure out that outdoor escalators should have been covered from the get-go so your plea that you need to raise rates because you need to repair escalators is falling on deaf ears. You should have had enough foresight to build that into the budget in the first place.
And the list of complaints I have about Metro is longer than the Christmas list I gave Santa Claus so I could talk all night, but y'all know how I hate to run my mouth so to make a long story short I will end my rant here.
Suffice it to say that the service problems that Metro has does puts the fact that I have to wait fifteen minutes for my beer in the Red Room all in perspective.
