What's the deal with painting?

Other than football, the common theme on Facebook pages this holiday weekend has been painting. Living rooms, kids' bedrooms.. blah blah blah. So imagine my surprise when I strolled into the office this morning and there were painters everywhere.

Since I have a keen eye for decorating, I inquired about the colors..."beige" they replied.

I suggested that they might want to consider another color choice... "Red walls, green trim."

Their reply, "you must be crazy."

"Indeed." I hadn't even gotten to the rope lights yet.

  1. Painting is about pastiche and discontinuity. The discontinuity of modern art places language above autobiography, therby devaluing the artist and placing more value on the way in which the artist is trying to say it.

Therefore, I say The Red Room is great art. It is nothing if not a pastiche of the flag of Portugal and it is so discontinuous it gives me vertigo and I feel like I just stepped into Guernica.

  2. Pablo, I had to get out my spanish to english dictionary just to read this.

Now, I have visited many museums and have taken a handful of art history classes... and I know what you might be thinking... "wow, Moldy, you have unsuspected depth." Not true. I care not to ponder the meaning behind the chaotic colors of the RedRoom nor wonder what went through someone's (Sonny's) head when they slapped up the electric blue tape. I either like it or I don't.

  3. Ha.

I believe Moldy Tiles have been to a museum like I believe Joe is going to put my hockey game on before it ends.

I believe Moldy Tiles have been to a museum like I believe Mya is going to come back before I finish the beer I have in front of me and offer me another beer.

I believe Moldy Tiles have been to a museum like I believe that Joe will actually award a Salsa dancing trophy on February 15.

I believe Moldy Tiles have been to a museum like I believe that Mya is NOT the reanimated corpse of Nefertiti escaped from a real museum.

  4. Poor Ess-Dog - life is tough after so many NHL losses. Maybe if you had a little more faith in others, most of your fellow Canadian hockey teams would be doing a little bit better right now. You are a fellow canadian, right?

  5. Everything vanishes around me, and works are born as if out of the void. Ripe, graphic fruits fall off. My hand has become the obedient instrument of a remote will.

  6. Painting is for nerds. Let's talk sports!
